Great Content Long-Form Content

[Estimated read time: 2 minutes]

Yes. I’ve read the studies. I know the correlations. Long-form content, on average, earns more engagement, higher rankings, and more shares than their more concise brethren.

Not sure where the idea that “great content” = “really, really long content” came from, but we need to dispel that myth.

Rand Fishkin (@randfish) March 30, 2016

But, that does not make long-form content the same as great content.

It does not make long-form content the goal of every content effort.

It certainly does not mean that longer content is better content.

Confounding variables are, in my opinion, behind many of these correlations. Long-form content, at least the good stuff, intentionally targets SEO Expert searchers and browsers seeking lengthier, more comprehensive information. If you want to challenge those “longer content performs better on average” statistics with equally unapplicable numbers, check the data on diminishing attention spans, ever-increasing abandonment rates, and what percent of visitors actually read long content to its end.

The right content:

Serves visitors’ intent by answering their questions and helping them complete their goals Delivers an easy, pleasurable, accessible experience on every device and every browser Gets the right information and experience to visitors FAST Does all of the above better than any of the competitors in the space

The phrase “great content” doesn’t mean “long-form” content. In fact, as Ronell Smith recently pointed out, “great content” doesn’t, universally, mean anything at all. Its definition is subjective and sometimes mythical when what we need are pragmatic, clear boxes to check to determine whether our content efforts are on track.

My proposal: rather than applying a tactic like long-form content universally or setting length as the bar (or even a metric) for greatness, we instead match our content to our audience’s needs and our business/personal goals. 700 more words will not help you reach your goals any more than 7 more words. Create content that helps people. Do it http://ift.tt/13qkLe2 efficiently. Never write an ultimate guide where a single image could more powerfully convey the same value. Trust me; your audience and your bottom line will thank you.

P.S. If you’re seeking some examples of long-form, short-form, interactive, visual, and even single-blog-post content that I think fits with the philosophy above, check out my list of 10X Content and Ross Hudgens’ recent list of content marketing examples. Both have lots of short-form excellence included.

p.p.s Buzzsumo put out this superb piece on how IFL Science does masterful short-form content. They showed that IFL actually does far better with their short, <1,000 word posts, than with their longer ones.

The Buzzfeed Approach to Social Media Strategy

[Estimated read time: 6 minutes]

I initially started writing a post about how BuzzFeed tailors its content to different social networks. What image sizes do they use? What type of content works on one network but not another? What tactics do they employ? But as it turns out, there isnt anything that revolutionary in the way BuzzFeed approaches their content on these social networks. There are a few interesting things they do, such as:

Using silent, square videos on Facebook that work well on any device and dont require sound to be understood more info from Tom Critchlow here: Intermodal Media

Matcha Green Tea Swiss Roll

Posted by Tasty on Thursday, January 21, 2016 Posting almost exclusively list-based articles on Twitter:

Aggregating Reddit-type content from elsewhere onto their Instagram feed without much connection to BuzzFeed:

Having different individuals run their Snapchat account in a story format that you would expect from your own friends. For instance, someone might document her time at a concert or trying a new type of food or visiting Central Park. Occasionally appending ?sub_confirmation=1 when linking to their YouTube channel to generate a subscription popup: https://www.youtube.com/user/BuzzFeedVideo?sub_confirmation=1

But, I dont think these tactics are the most interesting part of BuzzFeeds approach to social media.

A different approach to social strategy

BuzzFeed made a fundamental change to its social strategy in early 2015. This is what BuzzFeeds publisher/data guru Dao Nguyen had to say about it:

Our CEO, Jonah Peretti, started talking about BuzzFeeds distributed strategy to internal teams in January 2015. Instead of focusing primarily on our website and apps, and using social networks as a way to send traffic to them, we were going to aggressively publish our content directly to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Snapchat.

Id recommend checking out the entire article as well; its awesome.

BuzzFeeds Instagram feed is one of the more extreme examples of this strategy. Their posts have little chance of immediately sending traffic back to BuzzFeed and typically look like this:

This post isnt going to directly send traffic to BuzzFeed anytime soon, but it is going to engage users. In this sense, Instagram is basically a branding platform for BuzzFeed. It puts the BuzzFeed name next to engaging content for millions of users and almost http://addpro.com/ certainly increases the effectiveness of BuzzFeeds marketing efforts elsewhere.

This doesnt mean BuzzFeed has stopped using social to send traffic back to their site. In fact, almost all of their Twitter posts are click-baity listicles:

But the common thread is that BuzzFeed doesnt try to enforce its own goals on the channel. If Snapchat or Facebook or YouTube users want to mostly consume native content directly on those platforms without leaving their feed, then thats where BuzzFeed will reach them.

One of the obvious takeaways from all this is to tailor your content to the channel. This has been talked about to death. A more interesting takeaway is using these channels as branding channels rather than conversion channels.

Theres nothing wrong with exclusively posting engaging content that doesnt relate to your product. You see the Buzzfeed name every time you interact with a Buzzfeed social post. It SEO Expert comes up in notifications from Instagram or Facebook or Twitter or SnapChat. You see it in the feeds you spend your time in everyday. Isnt there tremendous value in simply putting your name in front of users every day? Isnt this Branding 101? Who cares if youre not talking about your product?

Its kind of greedy. You could have the attention of your target market. You could have your name show up next to content they consume EVERY day. You could be the subject of a notification they receive straight to their phone. But thats not enough for most brands. They also need that attention to be closely related to their product.

Therefore, the biggest mistake many brands make is forcing social media further down the funnel than it should be. Most brands and products simply arent suited for engaging social media content that converts, and are better off aiming for branding-related goals because it provides more creative flexibility.

Engaging & product-related: doing it right

The brands that do pull off engaging and product-related content arent social media geniuses they simply have products that lend themselves to interesting social media content. Some examples would be:

BuzzFeed:

People want to read their articles (on some channels)

The New York Times:

People want to be kept up to date on the news

Etsy:

People want to discover unique products

Bloomingdales:

People want to see cool outfits

Theres also a whole class of accounts that have successfully made themselves authorities on certain topics and provide value that way:

Distilled:

HootSuite:

The value prop

Whats your social media value proposition?” In other words, what are the reasons someone would follow you on Twitter or Instagram or wherever… OTHER than simply liking your brand? What content are you providing that they would care about? If your social media value proposition isnt strong when focusing on your product, you need to find another one.

To put all of this another way…

The question most people ask:

“How do we use social media to promote our product?”

The question most people should be asking:

“How do we create engaging social content? (for our target demographic)”

Trying to answer both with the same content usually results in awkward content that is tangentially related to your product and almost certainly not engaging:

Seen through this lens, youd change 90% of branded social media accounts overnight. Stop trying to force your product or brand into posts. Just post engaging content.

Instead of posting this type of content:

You would post content that people actually care about product-related or not.

Content people care about

Some examples of executing social right when you cant focus on your product would be:

Red Bull:

People arent interested in energy drinks, so they post about extreme sports

Dove:

People dont care about soap, so they post about inner beauty

Intel:

People dont care about computer chips, so they post about technology broadly:

Changing your core accounts might be too risky. In which case, take another page out of BuzzFeeds book and experiment with a new social feed dedicated exclusively to a certain type of content without overhauling your main accounts. For example:

Coke could create an account solely dedicated to highlighting happy and uplifting moments Dos Equis could create an account solely dedicated to profiling interesting men Old Spice could create an account solely about lifehacks for college students Mint.com could create an account solely focused on financial tips and tricks

Its easy to treat social media as just another traffic-generating channel. Posts are mostly promotional or product-oriented, with the occasional and reluctant “engagement”-related post sprinkled in. The way Buzzfeed treats certain channels hints at a different goal: brand awareness. Its not about focusing on your products. Its just old-fashioned branding: associate your brand with the right emotion and put it in front of as many relevant people as possible.

New Visual Search Photo Features from Google

Visual Search Image outlining

These details come from an anonymous source who also gave us a bit more details on the project. The report states there will be a new feature integrated, allowing users to outline specific areas of the image in order to directly target their searches.

In Google Goggles, one can only search the whole image, which has proven to bring plenty of discrepancies. Images often display plenty of distractions, background items and other objects that may throw off a search result. According to the sketch provided, the system will also be able to recommend retailers for purchasing products, as well as other details.

Furthermore, it is said this technology has also been tested in wearable http://ift.tt/1qfZUFv computing devices. This could suggest this technology may come to products like Google Glass and possibly even VR (or AR) headsets.

Google Camera app rumored to get Google Goggles functionality

Today were to understand from an anonymous source, as it were that Google may soon be releasing a new camera feature theyve had in testing for some time. This feature would allow the user to use their standard Google Camera app to search for information based on what theyre able to see but more than that.

Google is building a better Android camera that can search what it sees

Details given to Android Authority through an anonymous source state that the integration would include a new feature allowing users to outline specific areas of the image in order to directly target their searches. This would be an improvement on the current iteration of Google Goggles, which only allows you to search whole images.

Google may reportedly add augmented reality support to its camera app

Ive noticed some stories about new visual search features available through Google that have been leaked out to the media from an anonymous source. And I also noticed a patent application filed by Google, which was just published which contains at least one image that is the same as one supplied to Android Authority, which makes me wonder if the anonymous source that contacted them was from Google.

The patent filing does describe how a person might take an image from a photograph and outline part of that image with a stylus or a finger, and have search features available to them like those available from within Google Goggles.

Back in 2011, I wrote the post The Future of Googles Visual Phone Search?, which supposedly would offer the ability to provide mixtures of searches simultaneously on an image, of the types offered through the Google Goggles App. That type of rich visual search never materialized from Google. The types of search under that richer visual search SEO Specialist patent filing from 2011, included:

A facial recognition searchAn OCR search for text in the imageAn image-to-terms search system, which may use object recognitionA product recognition search, which could recognize two dimensional images such as book covers and CDs,and three dimensional images such as furnitureA bar code recognition searchA named entity recognition search, which could provide information about specific people, places, and thingsA landmark recognition search, recognizing actual landmarks and possibly images advertised on billboardsA place recognition search that might be aided by geo-location information provided by something like a GPS receiverA color recognition search, andA similar image search, which looks for images similar to the one that youve used as a query

A wearable device, that could be Google Glass, might use a camera to watch an object from a photo be outlined, and that outlining could trigger a visual search. based upon the part of the image outlined, and the search could be one of these specialized searches that we see from Google Goggles. You would ideally take a photograph, and then outline an object within the image, and that outlining would be captured by your wearable device.

The patent filing that provides more details on this rumored visual search is:

Object Outlining to Initiate a Visual Search

Filed: 04.12.2015

Published: 24.03.2016

Inventors: Thad Eugene Starner, Irfan Essa

Abstract:

Methods and devices for initiating a search of an object are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method is disclosed that includes receiving sensor data from a sensor on a wearable computing device and, based on the sensor data, detecting a movement that defines an outline of an area in the sensor data. The method further includes identifying an object that is located in the area and initiating a search on the object. In another embodiment, a server is disclosed that includes an interface configured to receive sensor data from a sensor on a wearable computing device, at least one processor, and data storage comprising instructions executable by the at least one processor to detect, based on the sensor data, a movement that defines an outline of an area in the sensor data, identify an object that is located in the area, and initiate a search on the object.

Thad Starner is, among other things, a technical lead manager for Google Glass and the director for the Contextual Computing Group at Georgia Tech Ifran Essa teaches at the Georgia Tech Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Machines and does Research on Video Analysis and Enhancement for Google.

Take Aways

The patent tells us that the advantages of the approach in this patent,is that outlining the object can speed up the search and computing power may not be expended to perform searches in which the user is not interested.

That makes it sound like it is something of a reaction to the multiple searches to be performed for the patent I wrote about in 2011.

Ive used Google Goggles before, and it can be a little tricky to take a picture of one object for the app to function upon. and you may want to search for something in a photo that youve taken that you wanted to capture as part of a photograph, rather than using Google Goggles upon. And you may want to save that photo as a photo, which I dont think you can do with Google Goggles.

This appears to require that someone use a wearable such as Glass (It hints that other wearables could be used) along with a camera from a smartphone to perform visual searches. Its the first patent that Ive seen from Google that requires a combined use such as that its possible that there have been others, but I didnt see them. Given how popular phones with cameras are these days, I dont think its a problem that it combines multiple devices like this. and it seems to make Google Glass have more uses. I suspect that you can outlines objects on images that you didnt photograph as well.

How To Pick Up Strippers At Las Vegas Strip Clubs

Strip clubs are usually certainly certainly one of my top areas with regard to approaching hot girls.

You could say they’re the actual ULTIMATE “target-rich environment.” where else are you literally flanked by sexy, nearly-naked babes…the booze is actually flowing, and most of the women http://ift.tt/1UVvw0F are usually buzzed…the lighting along with music is placed regarding seduction…and every one of these babes wishes for you to occur more than and also speak to YOU!

You’re most likely thinking, “yeah, but they only want me in order to spend money.” Along With that’s accurate — with first.

When an individual master the particular “Secrets of Strip Club Seduction,” you will QUICKLY frame your self as a non-customer — a man who is HIP to their game, and the means these clubs operate, as well as additionally, it indicates you know how to vibe with the strippers inside a means that’s charming, confident and playful.

When you utilize these techniques, within thirty seconds she’ll completely quit thinking about wanting to hustle you to acquire a “lap dance” — as well as she’ll be laughing and vibing along with you, just as if you had been performing a productive pickup at a standard bar or perhaps club.

Most guys, however, buy to the myths and also stereotypes about exotic dancers, and this prevents all of them coming from seeking to consider it to be able to this “other level.” I’ve dated many strippers (I even had an HSG, Hot Stripper Girlfriend, who shared my house to obtain a handful of years), as well as I understand his or her psychology like few guys do.

I can in addition say that it’s definitely possible for you to definitely date certainly one of the hottest strippers in the club.

But first, I want to interrupt down the #1 MYTH with regards to strippers, and also explain the particular FACTS as I have got arrived at realize them…

THE NUMBER ONE STRIP CLUB MYTH: “Strippers never date customers.”

Yes, strippers will always say this. “I don’t date customers” will be just like the official mantra for girls who perform in the strip clubs. Why is it fond of declaring this? Since they will feel that to always be able to end up being able to maintain their sanity with this crazy job, these people need to become able to keep both “sides” involving his or her identity separate.

Away through your ex job, the girl may be Marcie, the single mother who’s using lessons in the nearby neighborhood college. Or, the lady may be Rebecca, the particular aspiring actress that is simply stripping “temporarily” until the lady catches her lucky break.

But at the club, she puts on her make-up and G-string and the girl or even he gets in order to be “Mercedes” or “Destiny” as well as whatever the girl stage title might be. Your Woman tells herself that this could be JUST A New JOB since it would be also depressing in order to feel that a stripper can be just about all your woman is.

But throughout reality, do strippers date guys that they meet in the club coming from time for you to time? Totally! I satisfied my ex-girlfriend, the HSG, when she upon duty with the girl place. Almost All involving the woman’s stripper buddies had boyfriends whom that they satisfied from work. The Particular view that will strippers, as becoming a hard-and-fast rule, do NOT date consumers can be nonsense.

Why would a stripper NOT want to determine anyone outside involving the woman’s work, IF you strike the woman’s like a fun, cool, super-confident guy which tends to make the woman’s really feel sexual chemistry? These People key here would be to prevail over your ex reservations about dating “customers.” Anyone need to “frame” oneself as getting NON JUDGMENTAL and an individual also must set up that a person simply UNDERSTAND what the lady really does for a living, as well as you know it’s “just any job.” (My “Secrets Regarding Strip Club lesbian shows Seduction” program is filled with strategies regarding building rapport, comfort along with ease and also sexual chemistry.)

Basically, a person act NOTHING just just like the “chump customers” who she’s going to steer clear of in any kind of way expenses as soon as your woman clocks out. You’re unique. You’re an original. Your Woman gets the actual feeling which you REALLY UNDERSTAND her. Along With that, my friend, the particular essence associated with how you can pick up strippers and score within the strip clubs.

How Google Might Make Better Synonym Substitutions Using Knowledge Base Categories

Shea StadiumLeigh Miller Yankee Stadium, francis_leigh, Some rights reserved

A couple of months ago, I wrote about a Google patent that involved rewriting queries, titled Investigating Google RankBrain and Query Term Substitutions. Theres likely a lot more to how Googles RankBrain approach works, but I came across a patent that seems to be related to the patent I wrote about in that post, and thought it was worth sharing and starting a discussion about. The patent I wrote about in that post was Using concepts as contexts for query term substitutions. The title for this new patent was very similar to that one (Synonym identification based on categorical contexts), and the more recent patent was granted on December 1st of this year.

The new patent starts off describing a scenario that is a good example of how it works. The inventors tell us:

For example, learning that restaurants is a SEO Specialist good synonym for food in the query [food in San Francisco] is relatively straightforward, because the volume of query traffic including the query term San Francisco is very large. For much smaller cities, such as Grey Bull, Wyo., the query stream may have never seen any supporting evidence for this synonym substitution.

That both cities are entities that fit into the same category, that of Cities means that they could potentially be good synonyms for each other. Thats what the inventors of this patent tell us specifically, using the San Francisco and Grey Bull example:

For example, if San Francisco and Grey Bull are both cities, and restaurants is a good synonym for food in queries about San Francisco, the synonym relationship may apply to queries related to Grey Bull as well. Thus, the category city may be considered a useful category when identifying synonyms for query expansion in circumstances such as this.

So, we are told that the http://ift.tt/1Dvi5r1 process involved in this patent is to identify categories from a knowledge base involving a number of entities where other entities within that same category could potentially be synonyms for each other in similar contexts. The process from the patent involves identifying those entities from a query stream, and identifying the category as one that they call a coherent category.

The patent tells us that a coherent category is one in which a certain threshold of terms tend to co-occur in a query stream involving those entities. The patent tells us, for instance that a category that might include entities that are cities, villages, and towns might see a lot of co-occurring terms involving hotels and roads. If the number of co-occurring terms appearing in that query stream meet a certain threshold, it would be considered a coherent category, and the entities from the same categories could possibly then be used as synonyms for each other.

The patent in question is:

Synonym identification based on categorical contexts

Invented by: Zachary A.Garrett, Takahiro Nakajima, Tasuku Oonishi

Assignee: Google

US Patent 9,201,945

Granted December 1, 2015

Filed: March 8, 2013

Abstract

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for training recognition canonical representations corresponding to named-entity phrases in a second natural language based on translating a set of allowable expressions with canonical representations from a first natural language, which may be generated by expanding a context-free grammar for the allowable expressions for the first natural language.

Take Aways

When I wrote about the query term substitution patent I refer to at the start of this post, I included a number of examples of queries that were re-written based upon some substitutions of query terms that might seem reasonable to a search engine looking at words that tended to show up, or co-occur, in a query stream involving those search terms.

For instance, someone searching for [New York Yankees stadium] was likely searching for results that involved baseball since queries that included New York Yankees and stadium also often included the term baseball.

That patent didnt use the term co-occur nor did it explain how a knowledge base might be used to substitute entities that might be in the same categories like this one does, but the idea that a shared context like entity categories can be used to trigger entity substitutions in a query is interesting.

Its worth spending time with both patents and reading through each of them multiple times and thinking about how they are being used.

Checklist For The Indian Brides

Most traditional Indian weddings are quite elaborate with spreading over 2-7 days covering several functions and ceremonies like sagai, mehndi, sangeet, cocktail parties and of course the wedding. Most of the arrangements are taken care of by the parents of the bride and the bridegroom. However, things have certainly changed over the time. Brides and bridegrooms now have a much bigger say in the wedding arrangements than they ever had before and are usually consulted on just about everything related to their wedding.

Literally speaking, preparations for an Indian wedding never ever seem to be complete until the marriage ceremonies all get over. Listed below are some things that you shouldnt overlook to ensure a smooth wedding.

-Decide beforehand how much you can really afford to spend in all and also try and figure out how much you would like to spend on different ceremonies, clothes, jewellery etc.

-Detailing wedding ceremonies that need to be performed.

-List down the requirements for each wedding ceremony and ensure that the required samagri (material) is arranged for well in advance.

-Expected number of guests for each of the occasion.

-Consult with the grooms family and your own relatives to fid date and time for the ceremonies.

-Ask friends and family members who would be willing to lend a helping hand. Decide in advance who would be doing what.

-Make sure that you book the wedding venue well in advance since during peak wedding season good wedding venues are rarely available.

-Arrange for the out of town guests well in advance so that you can avoid the hassles of running around the town booking rooms at the last moment.

-Start looking for and shortlist wedding catering services, hotels or restaurants for the food at each of the functions well in advance.

-Get your wedding invitation cards printed well in advance and send them out timely.

-Booking for the wedding photographer and videographer

-Trousseau purchases and packaging

SEO, PPC, Content Marketing, or SMM: Which Services Sell Best?

[Estimated read time: 12 minutes]

Each search query in Google is a demand signal for us digital marketers. If you know exactly what users are looking for, you can easily spot what theyre likely to buy.

From a common sense point of view, its quite logical to say that if users search for something more, they are able (and likely) to buy more. As it turns out, this correlation doesn’t work within digital marketing niches. The commercial potential of a certain digital marketing service is not in direct proportion to the search volume it receives. In other words:

In the digital marketing industry, popularity doesnt influence salability.

In the four digital marketing niches analyzed, I discovered:

SEO is still the most desirable service and it has the highest chance of leading to conversion. Users want to know more about social media and content marketing, but theyre not ready to pay for it. Users who are searching for PPC are the most likely to be converted.

After digging further into this article, youll discover which digital marketing services are the best to sell and why. Armed with this data, you’ll inform your strategy and have a leg up on your competitors.

Are the digital marketing services youre selling the ones users are ready to buy?

Nowadays, we see how the digital marketing sphere is moving more and more towards content marketing and social media marketing (SMM). Everybody talks about these services I’m no exception here. Moreover, there are plenty of digital marketers who are confident that without social media you can’t rank properly in Google (I’m not one of them).

However, it’s true that SMM and content marketing are now more important than ever. I was recently browsing through some BrightonSEO speeches and noticed that a substantial proportion of those talks were about content, SMM, copywriting, and even PR. I noticed the same situation with SMX events and many others. SEO seems like it’s becoming less important.

But what about market demand? What are our potential clients really interested in purchasing? I asked myself. I conducted a study to find out.

User search behavior in SEO, PPC, SMM, and content marketing nichesI analyzed 4 digital marketing niches: SEO, PPC, content marketing, and SMM.

Why did I choose these niches? They represent the top four services offered in the US digital marketing industry. Recently, I conducted a survey regarding the current state of digital marketing agencies services, costs, and payment models. Among the insights that I gained, I determined the most and least popular digital marketing services that agencies are selling today.

most popular 1.png

Top digital agency services offered in the US market.

However, this data was gathered solely from service providers, including agencies and freelancers. After considering these results further, I came to the conclusion that they don’t necessarily correlate with what clients want to buy. This all-important factor is completely missing from the data.

It was time to do some research on market demand via the most accessible information I could get: search queries.

Over 112,800 search queries were analyzed.

Because Im experienced in keyword research, it was an easy task for me. I took the top four services offered in the US and created lists of keywords that are related to SEO, SMM, PPC, and content marketing. These keywords were mostly collected with the help of Serpstat and SEMrush. After I created a final list, I used Google Keyword Planner, which provided me with the most accurate cost-per-click and search volume metrics. In the following graphic, you can see sums of search volumes of queries concerning these niches:

search volumes 2.png

To figure out how the popularity of a niche influences its commercial potential, I divided all queries related to these four niches into two groups general queries and those that are agency-related. I put search queries in the agency-related category if they had any kind of commercial interest, e.g. if they included words like fees, costs, prices, consultant, service, company, agency, etc.

Agency-related queries spot the cases when users are ready to buy a service, while general queries are simply informational queries.

agency-related.png

This distribution reflects the balance between what users are looking for versus what they are ready to buy, so here are my top hints:

1. SEO is still the most desirable service and it has the highest chance of leading to conversion.

SEO is a leading niche that attracts the highest search interest, as well as the most potentially commercial queries. If you’re already selling SEO services, don’t stop. And if you arent, perhaps you should start.

2. Users want to know more about social media and content marketing, but theyre not ready to pay for it.

The social media niche attracts a lot of searchers, but they’re less likely to pay for it. Although content marketing generates quite high search volumes, users aren’t likely to pay for it, either, as only four percent of queries are commercial.

3. Users who are searching for PPC are the most likely to be converted.

PPC, on the contrary, attracts less searchers; as we can judge from the sum of its search volumes, PPC is 10 times less popular than SEO. Nevertheless, it enjoys a higher frequency of agency-related keywords than the content marketing niche, and about 10 percent of its agency-related queries are likely to result in the purchase of PPC management services.

most searchable vs mosr exp.png

I also took a look at the most searchable and the most expensive keywords connected with these four niches and compared them. I assumed that they wouldn’t correlate. Market demand is represented by search volumes, which means that the most searchable keywords are the queries a lot of people use.

However, the most expensive keywords mirror the most competitive niches, which have a really limited audience of potential clients. In order to determine if I was correct, I compared the top five most searchable and most expensive keywords in each of the four niches.

The most expensive keywords show low search volumes.

By looking at the table below, you can see that my hypothesis was absolutely correct. The higher the suggested bid, the lower the number of searchers.

The average search volumes of the top five most expensive keywords for each investigated niche do not exceed 100 searches.

Average Suggested Bid

Content Marketing

The opposite trend was revealed for the most searchable keywords, where the average suggested bid is less than $20 USD, but the average search volume exceeds 5,000 searchers.

Based on this data, its obvious that you’ll pay less for keywords that have a larger search volume. Those keywords are informational search terms, rather than commercial ones.

8 facts about the most searchable and most expensive keywords

In the following diagrams you can see the top five most popular keywords and their search volumes in Google US, as well as the top five most expensive keywords and suggested bids.

SEO niche

TOP SEO.png

Fact 1: A lot of people choose to deal with SEO issues themselves at least, they try to with the help of special tools.

In the SEO niche, the most searchable keywords are general queries like SEO and search engine optimization. Also, a lot of users search for SEO tools, which is the fourth most searchable query. The search volumes of these keywords indicate that a lot of users would rather deal with SEO issues on their own, and that theyre looking for professional SEO tools. It’s no secret that new analytic tools are released every day to compete for rule of their respective marketing niches. On the other hand, quite a lot of users search Google for SEO company, which is the fifth most searchable query, and that indicates they’re eager to delegate SEO problems to paid professionals.

Fact 2: “SEO strategy template,” with a CPC of $120.28, is used by Google to promote AdWords.

As for the top five most expensive SEO keywords, I found they’re quite a curious set. The most expensive SEO-related keyword is SEO strategy template, which costs $120.28. This is a consulting query, so why has it become so expensive?

To find it out, I analyzed this query with the help of SEMrushs Keywords Analytics tool. The results were eye-popping to me. The most mind-blowing thing here is Googles actions. It turns out that Google itself is paying for this keyword to appear in paid search.

Whats even more interesting: Google is also paying for SEO strategy template to show the Adwords page in paid results. This would seem to prove that not all rules apply to everyone: we have to maintain the relevancy of landing pages and keywords for pages appearing in Google ads… but Google may not be subject to those restrictions. A campaign’s quality score is based on CTR, ad relevance, and landing page experience. It’s obvious that users searching for “SEO strategy template” have no interest in using Google AdWords!

 (197).png

Keyword ads history for “SEO strategy template”

PPC niche

TOP PPC.png

Fact 1: Users don’t want to deal with PPC on their own.

It’s worth noting that the top five most expensive keywords are agency related. They are PPC management agency, top PPC companies, and pay per click management service.

Fact 2: The majority of the top five most expensive PPC keywords are agency-related search terms.

As http://ift.tt/21EjAic we’ve already discovered, the PPC niche isn’t the most searchable digital marketing topic; remember, it receives 10 times less searchers than SEO. Nevertheless, it receives a rather large proportion of agency-related queries. Ironically, people are ready to spend their time running SEO on their own in order to make it free.” But when it comes to ads campaigns, they prefer to find an agency or consultant.

Social media marketing niche

TOP SMM.png

Fact 1: SMM education is getting popular.

In the social media marketing niche, all of the most searchable keywords are also general queries, like social media or social media definition. Also, almost all of the top five most expensive keywords for SMM are connected with education in the SMM sphere, namely obtaining a masters degree and online courses: MBA in social media marketing, social media masters, masters in social media marketing, and online social media marketing course.

Fact 2: Users have realized that managing social media also requires a strategy.

The query What is social media strategy appeared in the top five most expensive SMM-related keywords. I’m sure we can qualify this query as consultancy-related. There’s a high probability that users who are searching for an SMM strategy are willing to hire an expert to master their SMM channels.

Content marketing niche

TOP Content.png

Fact 1: Contently is the ultimate leader.

In the content marketing niche, there’s a brand search query in the top five most searchable keywords Contently” which is a great example of how a company that provides content marketing software can achieve a wide presence in their niche. Also, one of the most searchable queries is content management system. I would say that such queries are likely to lead users to purchase professional content marketing services.

Fact 2: The most expensive keywords are related to content management tools.

The content marketing niche, unlike the other digital marketing niches Ive analyzed, has a strong correlation between market demand and PPC rates. All of the most expensive keywords are also connected with content management systems: content management system database, Drupal content management system, what does a content management system do, and the niche query healthcare content management.

Obviously, many people are struggling to organize their content strategies and processes and are looking for a proper management system. The high prices for these keywords are in direct response to market demand.

Best SEO and PPC companies according to Google US

Thats all interesting, I thought, but how does the situation look from the point of view of a potential client who’s unaware of whats going on in the market?

Lets suppose that this potential client is a perfectionist and they want to buy services from the very best company. They would ask Google “what are the best SEO and PPC companies?”, so I did as well.

Hint: I bet you’ve never heard of a majority of them.

I analyzed Googles SERPs for the queries best SEO company and best PPC company and chose agency domains that appeared in the first 10 results for each of these SERPs. You can see the results in the following graphics.

For the query best SEO company, agency domains that appeared in the first 10 results were Highervisibility.com, Boostability.com, Pagetraffic.com, and Outspokenmedia.com. I used SEMrush to analyze the organic search visibility these domains received from December 2013 to October 2015. Organic Best SEO.png

Because SEMrush only reports on traffic based on keywords, I decided to add Similarweb and watch organic search visits for these domains for the Expert SEO year 2015. Actually, I discovered absolutely non-positive trends you can see this in the graphic below.

The following digital agencies appeared in the first 10 results in Googles SERP for the query best PPC company: Jumfly.com, Wordstream.com, and Straightnorth.com. For these domains, I analyzed data concerning their paid search visibility with the help of SEMrush. In the following graphic, you can see the results:

Paid for Best PPC.png

For more detailed data for 2015, I created a Paid Search Visits report for these domains with the help of SimilarWeb.

As you can see, the majority of the best SEO and PPC companies according to Google are not the ones you might expect. Googles ranking algorithms, despite constantly being improved and moving increasingly towards human-centered logic, are still far from perfect.

View the complete infographic here.

SEO, PPC, content marketing, and SMM thrashed out

Now that we’ve discovered the current market demand for the most popular digital agency services, you can use this data to better understand your potential clients and create more effective strategies.

Here’s a short recap to help kick off the conversation in the comments. The major findings are as follows:

High search volumes for certain topics don’t always mirror high-converting niches. You should always further investigate this correlation. (Note: You can easily apply this to any markets landscape research, not just the digital marketing industry.) SMM and content marketing are relatively new spheres, and they enjoy very high search volumes compared to PPC and SEO. But be aware that SMM and content marketing receive less commercial queries that are likely to be converted. I have no idea why, but SMM education has become an extremely competitive niche. In fact, there are more experts who are ready to provide SMM courses than those who want to receive SMM education. If you want to sell SMM training courses, be prepared to enter into a highly competitive market! As for content marketing, content management services are now competing against content management systems; so far, Contently is winning this battle.

Do you have any other thoughts, questions, or ideas? I’m super excited to hear them sound off in the comments!

How to Work at a Drug Store in a Recession

Two types of cashiers exist for a local pharmacy: the cashiers who directly handle the prescriptions, and the cashiers who handle the store and gift items. Directly handling the medication is stressful, because customers can become overly aggressive for their drugs. And though working with the pharmacist may look good on a rsum, working as a cashier and providing customer service for the rest of the store can also boost your rsum.

Retail continues to struggle in the current economic recession. Often times, part-time employees only receive raises due to state and federal law. As someone with experience in working the store and gift section in a local drug store, I have listed below how to make the boss happy with your work in a poor economy.

The Sign to a Local Drug StoreDrug Store

Credit: Consumerist Dot Com

Remain Proactive Despite the Absent CustomersBosses absolutely hate to see their employees standing around. When customers are staying home and saving their money, as often happens after the holidays, then the employees need to find something to do other than waiting for someone to walk in. Below is a list of some ideas:

Replace sold items Whether in the store section or the gift shop, some customers wandered in and bought an item or two. If the inventory in the computer says there are more of those items, and they seem missing from the floor, then go back into the storage area and replace the sold items. Price new items When a new order for gift items ships in, someone needs to price the items and place them on the shelves. The manager will most likely assign you and your coworkers in the drug store to do this task after he or she have recorded the items in the computer inventory. Clean the shelves Nothing screams louder about having a thankless job like cleaning. However, this brainless activity makes you seem hard-working, even when the dirt is minimal. Besides, customers more quickly see the cobwebbed corners and bug-smeared glass than the employees, which mean they also more quickly see a clean store. The Aisles of a Drug StoreDrug Store

Treat the Regulars like Old Friends and Family

Having worked at my current place http://ift.tt/1pCx4PO of employment for over three years, I now recognize over a dozen customers who classify as regulars. Other than picking up their prescriptions at the pharmacy, they regularly buy from the store, and sometimes from the gift and greeting card section. Most of these customers have store accounts. Over the years, Ive come to memorize their account numbers. This always seems to impress them.

In addition to making the shopping experience easy and convenient for the regulars, employees should always remember to put on a friendly face. This may come a little more easily to the extroverted persons, but for us introverts, its a daily struggle. Both the friendly and outgoing regulars and the serious and reserved ones like an employee who smiles and greets them warmly. If requiring inspiration, look toward the drug store owners. They usually are able to please the customers down to an art.

Make Friends with the Other Employees

Warring employees disturb everyone. Not only do the other employees suffer from the bickering and the badmouthing, but the warring employees will gain a bad reputation from their boss when they mustlook for another job. To gain ground with your employer, try to befriend the other employees. Several rules apply when making friends with your coworkers:

Talk WHILE working Most bosses dont have a problem with their employees talking to each other. They only have a problem when what all their employees do is talk. Eventually, the work will become second nature and all the employees can enjoy their time with each other. Work as a team Too many employees will take advantage of their coworkers. If a coworker switches shifts with you once or twice, dont expect for her to do so every time you want to take a night off. The coworker may like you, but she may change her mind if you abuse her generosity. Be compassionate Sooner or later, your coworker will screw up and the blame will fall on you. Correct the http://ift.tt/1pCx7uS manager if the accusation is serious, but be friendly toward the coworker. She was likely tiredand had zero intention in making you look bad. As Found in Drug StoresLook Toward a Brighter Future

During the first couple years at my workplace, I knew two women who made their careers out of working retail. These women had hard lives and struggled with anger, self-hatred, and bitterness. Working at a drug store is temporary, a means to advance toward something with better pay and benefits. Unfortunately, benefits are rarer these days, as are fulltime positions, but part-time employees who earn minimum wage must look towards the future.

If you work at retail during todays recession, then set goals and be proactive, friendly, and cooperative. The best bosses will look at you and see more potential. Who knows? You may even receive a decent raise when the boss notices your good work and provides you with more duties. Your rsum will never look better.

How To Prevent Webpage Design Mistakes for Your Business Site

There is a lot more than meets the eye when it comes to making a website intended for business purposes. You need to be careful about the whole design process of your site since it plays a key role in its success. We will talk about the more important considerations for website design that must not be ignored.

Proper Graphics: There should be absolutely no inconsistency when it comes to the graphics of your website, make sure you size/define all the graphics and images on your site correctly. Doing this allows you to completely optimize the design of your website so that it performs well and is better than the others out there. The fact is, webpages that contain the right kind of graphics, which are highly consistent, will allow them to load quicker. A good graphic setup will not just boost the look of your website, it helps it work perfectly in all of the browsers. Images that are well sized and will help the browsers have an easier time of working and make loading time faster.

RSS Auto-Discovery: Every webmaster who offers an RSS feed for their websites (which should be every person reading this article) needs to include the code for auto-discovery in their header. This allows different browsers and as well as RSS readers to automatically detect the RSS feed and alert the visitors that it is available. RSS feeds are so popular because they keep readers updated on any website content changes–adding this one thing to your site can make a major difference.

Use Alternate Domains: In order to protect your brand and ensure that your website is found by your target audience, you should register alternate domain names or multiple versions of your domain name with various extensions. This protects you against other people who will want to take advantage of your success with similar domain names. This isn’t a direct part of your website design but take the step anyway so you can protect yourself. All that is left to do is re-direct the domain names to your primary website, a step most bigger companies take to raise brand awareness and protection. For example, in addition to registering a .com, you can register .net and .org as well so that you can own all three of the most popular domain extensions. This will help you protect yourself against search engine competition from those other domains.

What we discussed in the above article is pretty basic, but many webmasters tend to ignore even the basics, which costs them heavily in the long run. If you design a site with the end user in mind, rather than your ego, then more often than not you will be fine.

Is Your Hat Black, Grey Or White? Our Search Engine Optimization Tips Will Make Sure That Hat Fits

Website visitors impacts the website’s success. Sites that have merchandise rely heavily on visitors. Those that have better rankings in search engines generally have a bigger audience. SEO is a great way to get those rankings up to drive that traffic. Read the following article to learn about optimizing your site.

Code your site well when trying to use SEO. A site that is primarily written in messy JavaScript will be difficult or impossible for spiders to index. Using Flash without textual descriptions makes it impossible to index your site.

Use many types of keywords and even common misspellings. Sites that have effective meta tags will show up in more searches for a higher variety of keywords. If your website is about eyewear, some good keywords to include might be “glasses,” “eye glasses,” and “glases.”

You have to give keyword density some attention when optimizing pages for the search engines. Ideally, your page’s overall keyword density should be at 20% or less.

Boosting your site’s SEO takes time, so remember to be patient. Nothing will happen or change in one night to dramatically increases your traffic. It often takes month for a site to start seeing positive SEO results. It takes time for an online business to establish a name, just like traditional businesses.

You can learn how to do your own SEO using the information located in this article. There are plenty of resources available online to help you learn. Read many books along with articles talking about the topic.

Always include descriptive and efficient tags when trying to improve your SEO. Your tag should never be longer than 30 words. Don’t pass 100 KB on the heading page.

You need to go through your site for errors, some forget to do this. Make certain that your site is easy to read for both human visitors and search engines. Make sure that you proofread all of your work, as a misspelled keyword is useless.

Create a site map that includes your keywords. A site map gives your viewers an easy way to locate what they need on your website, by listing all the areas of your site. A search engine will also use your site map to give you a higher ranking because one of the things that they are looking for is how easy your website is to access.

Update your site content on a regular basis. Set a goal for yourself for weekly updates of new content and stick to it. Your site will be much more relevant to search engines if you regularly create original content. Higher page ranks go to those websites that are always putting out new content.

Avoid using a bunch of keywords. Keep your site’s focus to a dozen keywords and phrases that your website actually focuses on. Learn about how to get the most traffic by using analytical tools.

As stated earlier, the success of a website is determined by visitors. Websites that offer products require lots of visitors. More visitors will find your website if it has a high ranking. By utilizing search engine optimization, you will increase your ranking. SEO can work for you when you use this advice.

Movies on the Go

The process of downloading movies and searching for them can get somewhat time-consuming for a lot of people. Being able to cut out one of the steps or several of the steps can make all the difference for a lot of tech-savvy individuals. The Show Box app can help people do just that, allowing them to go straight to watching the movies and television show episodes that are available online.

logoPeople will be able to download this app from many different locations and it should be compatible with most devices, making it a convenient and efficient application. For a lot of apps that are as useful as this one, the developers will try to get away with charging outrageous subscription fees that people will have to pay on a regular basis. In other cases, the initial downloading fees will still be high enough that a lot of people still aren’t going to be able to see the point of an application like the Show Box app in the first place.

The Show Box app manages to stand out by being as cost-effective as it is convenient. It is a completely free app in every way, from the initial download and onward. Using this app, people will be able to download all sorts of material to their smartphones directly. With a little bit of additional technical skill, people will also be able to watch the material on their flat-screen televisions after downloading the material through the Show Box app. As people start to use the app, it should become a regular part of their viewing schedules. They will find the old process of acquiring and displaying televised media to be cumbersome and time-consuming by comparison. Apps like this one should become fairly standard soon enough as more and more people see the benefits.

Using Autocomplete to get Traffic

Using the suggested search results in Google, or Google autocomplete can be useful to find the most common search terms or searches that are related or longer tail in the niche you’re searching.  Have you thought of using it to inspire content creation?

Exploring a bit can find an autocomplete or suggested search result into a full topic, that can generate good targeted traffic to your website.

Here’s how I did it for one of my clients. They are in the diesel power generator industry in the Australian market, but you can use this same process for businesses in literally any industry and market you can think of.

Step 1: Find the spark of an idea using Google Autocomplete
I start by seeking out long-tail keyword ideas from Autocomplete. By typing in some of my client’s core keywords, I come across one that sparked my interest in particular—diesel generator fuel consumption.

What’s more, the Google AdWords Keyword Planner says it is a high competition term. So advertisers are prepared to spend good money on this phrase—all the better to try to rank well organically for the term. We want to get the traffic without incurring the click costs.
Step 2: Check the competition and find an edge
Next, we find out what pages rank well for the phrase, and then identify how we can do better, with user experience top of mind.

In the case of “diesel generator fuel consumption” in Google.com.au, the top-ranking page is this one: a US-focused piece of content using gallons instead of litres.
This observation, paired with the fact that the #2 Autocomplete suggestion was “diesel generator fuel consumption in litres” gives me the right slant for the content that will give us the edge over the top competing page: Why not create a table using metric measurements instead of imperial measurements for our Australian audience?
So that’s what I do.

I work with the client to gather the information and create the post on the their website. Also, I insert the target phrase in the page title, meta description, URL, and once in the body content. We also create a PDF downloadable with similar content.
Note: While figuring out how to make product/service pages better than those of competitors is the age-old struggle when it comes to working on core SEO keywords, with longer-tail keywords like the ones you work with using this tactic, users generally want detailed information, answers to questions, or implementable tips. So it makes it a little easier to figure out how you can do it better by putting yourself in the user’s shoes.
Step 3: Find the right way to market the content
If people are searching for the term in Google, then there must also be people on forums asking about it.

A quick search through Quora, Reddit and an other forums brings up some relevant threads. I engage with the users in these forums and add non-spammy, helpful no-followed links to our new content in answering their questions.

Caveat: Forum marketing has had a bad reputation for some time, and rightly so, as SEOs have abused the tactic. Before you go linking to your content in forums, I strongly recommend you check out this resource on the right way to engage in forum marketing.

Okay, what about the results?
Since I posted the page in December 2014, referral traffic from the forums has been picking up speed; organic traffic to the page keeps building, too.
Yeah, yeah, but what about keyword rankings?
While we’re yet to hit the top-ranking post off its perch (give us time!), we are sitting at #2 and #3 in the search results as I write this. So it looks like creating that downloadable PDF paid off.

All in all, this tactic took minimal time to plan and execute—content ideation, research and creation (including the PDF version) took three hours, while link building research and implementation took an additional two hours. That’s only five hours, yet the payoff for the client is already evident, and will continue to grow in the coming months.
Why not take a crack at using this technique yourself? I would love to hear how your ideas about how you could use it to benefit your business or clients.
